The F-84E was the first jet powered craft made by the republic. The E version added twelve inches to the fuselage and the cockpit area for the comfort of pilots. Internal fuel capacity was increased and the underwing bomb pylons were modified to handle an additional pair of 230 gallon drop tanks in place of bombs. The G version was the last straight-wing variant and the first fighter designed to carry and deliver nuclear weapons.
