Bell HTL series helicopters were used by the U.S. Coast Guard for a wide variety of duties. The service received its first HTL from the Navy in 1947, after ordering an initial batch of ten aircraft. HTL's were often fitted with float gear and used for ice reconnaissance and search and rescue missions.
